PlayStation 3 firmware update 2.17 is now available for download

What is this? A new PS3 firmware update? What could be in it? And why such a random number? Mysteries abound in this random late night update. Stay tuned as we download the update and explore the new features of the firmware.

And out of nowhere comes a new PS3 firmware update. Don't get too excited, it's just (apparently) a fix to help the online stability of a couple of unnamed PS3 titles. If we find any secret updates in there we'll let you know.

If you were stoked about the PS3 Update prompt you got tonight, cool your jets. It’s a simple stability update, and nothing more, folks. Unfortunately, it’s not the big update we’ve all been waiting for, which we’re hoping is out before the summer, here.

Version 2.17 is nothing more than a band-aid to help y’all with your daily online gaming, so it’s not entirely worthless. Just mostly so.

Update: Doesn't appear Sony included notes with this firmware update. Most likely a few bug fixes have been included. If we find out more, you can be sure that we'll update.
